BOB ORMSBY
Mr. Ormsby was born August 13, 1924, in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was married to his wife Margarett for 57 years until she passed away in February, 2005. They have two daughters, both graduates of Georgia Tech; one with a Masters degree in Geophysics, and the other with a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Bob graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering in 1945. He completed the Sloan Executive Management Nine Month Program at Stanford University 1959-1960. Mr. Ormsby’s professional experience includes working as an aerodynamicist at Glenn L. Martin Co., Wind Tunnel Engineer at David Taylor Model Basin, and Deputy Head Supersonic Wind Tunnels Branch at David Taylor Model Basin. He has held several positions for the Lockheed Georgia Company including President, Vice-President of Operations, Vice President of Engineering, Chief Engineer, Chief Advanced Design Engineer, C-5 Deputy Engineering Manager, Deputy Chief Advanced Design Engineer, Preliminary Design Division Manager, Operations Research Division Manager, and Operations Research Specialist. He served as the Vice President and General Manager of the Research and Development Division for the Lockheed Missiles and Space Company, Group President for Lockheed Aeronautical Systems Group, and Member of the Lockheed Board of Directors. Bob retired from Lockheed on December 31st, 1986. He then served as member and Chairman of the Proxy Board of Directors for the Sierracin/Sylmar Corporation from April 1989 to April 1997, and currently serves as Chairman of the Board and President for the Marietta Aviation Museum at Marietta, Georgia.
Mr. Ormsby has also served as Chairman for the NASA Aeronautics Advisory Committee, Fellow Member of the American Institute Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Member of the National Academy of Engineering. His awards include being inducted into Georgia Tech College of Engineering Hall of Fame, Recipient of the Georgia Tech Distinguished Alumnus Award, and Recipient of the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal.
Mr. Ormsby has his private pilot's license (inactive) and is the holder of patent number 2,741,120.
