Development of the Adam Aircraft A500

Speaker: Dennis Olcott

The Adam Aircraft A500 “CarbonAero” started life as a proof-of-concept aircraft fabricated by Scaled Composites.  Positioned in the marketplace as a high-performance, pressurized piston twin, the A500 seeks to fill a niche left vacant by the Cessna 340, Beech Duke, and Piper Navajo.

A key feature of the A500 is the centerline thrust configuration which significantly reduces the hazards of unplanned single engine operations.  The resulting configuration, with engines on the front and back of the fuselage and twin tailbooms, presents several challengers for structures and system installations.  The carbon composite airframe dramatically increase interior volume and allows external aerodynamics that significantly improve the performance over previous centerline thrust aircraft.

In addition, the growth and development of the company Adam Aircraft is integral to the development of the A500 aircraft.  Dr. Olcott will discuss several differences between Adam Aircraft and other aviation startups that will be keys to success.
