History of the Bell/Lockheed Marietta Facility and the B-29's Built There

Speaker: Bill Paden

This presentation covers the story of Air Force Plant No. 6 in Marietta including its origin, construction, and history; including the Bell Aircraft B-29 bombers of World War II and all the aircraft built there by Lockheed Martin right up to today's F/A-22 and C-130J.

Bill graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from Clemson University in 1958 and immediately went to work for the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, now Lockheed Martin. He never left and retired 7 years ago after 41 years with the company. As an engineer specializing in cockpit design he worked on most of the airplanes produced in Marietta during that period. During his last 10 years with the company he was Engineering Program Manager for the C-141 aircraft.

He and his wife Becky live in Marietta and have four married children and eight grandchildren.
