AIAA Region II Student Conference Judges Needed
posted: 15 Mar 2010 by corey.spiegel

The Annual Region II Student Conference is quickly approaching and is once again soliciting volunteers for the technical judging of the student paper submissions. There are 12 papers in the Masters category, 25 papers in the Undergraduate category, 8 papers in the Team category, and 9 papers in our Freshman/Sophomore Open Topic category. Each of the papers needs to be judged by a minimum of three different individuals. Participating as a technical judge does not require any travel. Judges will be able to download the papers as PDF files via the conference web site and submit the scores online. Papers are available for download now and all scores must be submitted by midnight, Wednesday, March 31, 2010.

If you would be interested in judging one or more papers, please contact Mr. Jay Dellinger (region2_judging@aiaastudentconference.org). Include your name, company affiliation, and a very brief description of your technical background and/or experience with your reply (a few sentences is fine). If you know someone else who would like to participate as a technical judge (they do not have to be an AIAA member), have them send their information to me as well. Jay will then contact you with further instructions on accessing the web site, reviewing papers, and submitting scores. The following are NOT eligible to be technical judges: AIAA student members, faculty and staff of our host schools (Auburn University and Tuskegee University), and onsite presentation judges.

Don't be discouraged from responding simply because you may only have time to review a small number of papers (you can judge as many or as few as you like depending on your schedule). Or if you feel that your area(s) of expertise may be too narrow or not technical enough. As long as you can score in a consistent way across the papers you choose to judge (whether you score high or low), then your scores can be combined and balanced statistically to make sure the results are meaningful and as accurate as possible. With the large number of papers this year, your participation would be even more appreciated to help prevent any last minute rushes to try to get papers to the three score minimum.
